about

The words for this song come originally from a settled Irish traveller, tin smith and singer John Reilly. Of course, we got it from Christy Moore, that fine Irish singer, who spent an early part of his career in Halifax and lived in Jumples Court at Mixenden. He was a frequent visitor to The Bradshaw Tavern folk club where John cut his folk teeth. The song’s story warns that we should be careful what we wish for!
